Sherri Shepherd the television personality, comedienne actress, and author was invited as a keynote speaker for the Arizona's Ultimate Women's Expo. She shared testimonies about her walk with type 2 Diabetes.  She gave excerpts from her book titled Plan D: How to Lose Weight and Beat Diabetes. Sherri said that; "diabetes could have killed me. Instead, it saved my life."

 Behind the Scenes:

Phoenix Glam Squad's very own make-up artist Janae' Shields was granted the opportunity to glam up Sherri Shepherd for her guest appearance at the Arizona's Ultimate Women's Expo.

Make Full face with faux lashes.

We gave Sherri a natural gold smokey eye with a pop of color. Sherri said she likes to play up her eyes and down play her lip color and that's exactly what we did. We did a beautiful gold smokey eye and added a bright blue on her lash line. Her flawless skin didn't need much so I added Mac Studio finish and fix and topped it off with a mineralized powder. We did some contouring and added a nude lip to complete the look. Sherri loved her makeup, she looked at herself numerous times complimenting our makeup artist Janae' Shields work. We were honored to work with such an amazing, hard working, personable celebrity and we can't wait to work with her in the future!

Breast Cancer Awareness

October marks the month of the annual campaign to increase awareness of Breast Cancer. Breast cancer is the second leading cause of death in women.  In 2013 it is estimated   that among U.S. women there will be 232,340 new cases  of invasive breast cancer.  There will be 39, 620 cancer deaths. It is vital as women to make a self examination at least once a month . Also, to include mammography in yearly check-up. The early detection of breast cancer, the 5-year survival rate is 98%.

HOW SHOULD A BREAST SELF-EXAM BE PERFORMED?

1) IN THE SHOWER

Using the pads of your fingers, move around your entire breast in a circular pattern moving from the outside to the center, checking the entire breast and armpit area. Check both breasts each month feeling for any lump, thickening, or hardened knot. Notice any changes and get lumps evaluated by your healthcare provider.

2) IN FRONT OF A MIRROR

Visually inspect your breasts with your arms at your sides. Next, raise your arms high overhead.
Look for any changes in the contour, any swelling, or dimpling of the skin, or changes in the nipples. Next, rest your palms on your hips and press firmly to flex your chest muscles. Left and right breasts will not exactly match—few women's breasts do, so look for any dimpling, puckering, or changes, particularly on one side.

3) LYING DOWN

When lying down, the breast tissue spreads out evenly along the chest wall. Place a pillow under your right shoulder and your right arm behind your head. Using your left hand, move the pads of your fingers around your right breast gently in small circular motions covering the entire breast area and armpit.
Use light, medium, and firm pressure. Squeeze the nipple; check for discharge and lumps. Repeat these steps for your left breast.
